DSO’s annual Free Community Concert: June 20 featuring soprano Maria Clark

The DeKalb Symphony Orchestra is excited to present their annual free Community Concert at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Decatur.  This concert will feature soprano Maria Clark performing famous soprano arias from operas including Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Puccini’s Tosca and Verdi’s Aida.  The program will also include orchestral operatic favorites.

Ms. Clark has been acclaimed for her virtuosic skills of expressive singing across the idioms of opera, oratorio, and art song, and has been critiqued as possessing “the voice of an angel.”  She has performed with opera companies such as Atlanta Opera, North Carolina Opera, Knoxville Opera, and L’Opera Comique and has performed symphonic works with Ludwig Symphony, Georgia Philharmonic, and Fosbo – Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá.

Ms. Clark appeared with the Irene Harrower Opera Workshop, performed with Georgia State University’s production of Tales of Hoffman, and sang with the ensemble of Atlanta Opera in its 2005 production of Carmen.  Ms. Clark also participated in Atlanta Opera and Opera Comique’s 2008 collaborative production of Porgy and Bess that toured in France, Spain, and Luxembourg, while singing the role of Strawberry Woman.  Ms. Clark was honored to recently make her debut with FOSBO-Fundación Orquesta Sinfónica de Bogotá Colombia and was sought out to sing the Bennett arrangement of Gershwin’s concert version of Porgy and Bess. Ms. Clark was a first prize winner in the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition of 2008 and as a result made a Carnegie Hall/Weill Recital Hall Debut in New York City in year 2008.  She is also the Oxnard Gold Medalist winner in the 2004 American Traditions Competition held at the Savannah Music Festival, is a past winner in the West Palm Beach Opera Competition and National Association of Teachers of Singing vocal competitions, and is a past finalist in both the Mobile Opera, and D’Angelo Vocal Competitions.

The orchestra is pleased to be able to bring this concert to the public with free admission, thanks to the generous support of the major sponsor, Decatur Tourism Bureau, and other Friends of Decatur community sponsors.
